The Best Kubrick Movie

What is (in your opinion) the best Stanley Kubrick movie?

My favorite would be A Clockwork Orange, the best film ever made.

Next someone needs to post about the best Soderberg film, then the best Scott film, best Howard film and best Stone film ( I know "best Stone film" is kind of oxymoron but bear with me)

Despin? Man I don't understand why you think he is a hack? A Clockwork Orange is a great film! Although 2001 was a little to odd for me, it still looked good. And honestly that is all the Kubrick films I have seen, but A Clockwork Orange is a good movie.

SoulJacker I'll elaborate as well as I can: I don't care for Oliver Stone much, I dont enjoy his films much so I rag on him quite a bit.

If your saying that 2001 "looks good," that really doesn't have much to do with Kubrick.

Oh yes it does. Kubrick was one of the world's biggest control freaks.

Anyway, I think his best is Dr Strangelove but my favourite to watch is 2001. My least favourite is A Clockwork Orange.

2001 is my favourite film. It does everything that other films don't do. It has unconventional structure which I find makes it interesting, deals with an issue that most directors would not touch (man's place in the universe) and does so successfully.
Too many films don't require you to do anything but just sit there. If a film does not make me think in any way then I'm not interested. The brain is capable of dealing with a lot more than rehashed plots and predictable dialogue.
Without spending a good portion of the day thinking about it, it's hard to explain why I like 2001 but if anyone says why they don't like it then I could respond.

Hmm...
2001 or Dr. Strangelove for me. Sellers stole the show on Strangelove, and HAL is my favorite character in a film- ever.

And if you want to read a great biography of Kubrick, check out the aptly named "Stanley Kubrick" by Vincent LoBrutto. It covers Stanley from childhood, to his photography days, and then through each of his films and the experiences he and the actors had on each. Some is funny, but most is very informative if you want to know more.

And no, I'm not a business partner of the author's.
